Why Braces?

When you were little, you might have had a perfect smile. But as you have gotten older, you may notice your mouth and even your bite has changed over the years. The mouths of adults shift over time. Adults also face periods of bone loss due to tooth decay or gum disease that can alter their mouths. You might also be involved in an accident or receive an injury that could alter your tooth structure. There are also many adults who also didn’t have good dental care as children. They may want to address issues with their mouths such as tooth spacing and bite.

How Do Braces Fix Your Teeth?

Braces work wonderfully to fix your teeth. We make braces with wires and brackets. We cement brackets to your teeth using dental adhesive. We also use wires to straighten out your teeth or respace your teeth. We can also correct bites with braces and wires. Before we begin a treatment plan for you, we first make impressions of your teeth, and we use x-rays to make a treatment plan to use for your perfect smile. Once your brackets and wires are in place, we will then see you approximately every 6-8 weeks. We adjust the wires on your teeth. Those wires and brackets act together and move your teeth a little at a time. The gradual movement of your teeth is not painful, but it does take time.

We say over time because you need to know that braces are not an immediate fix. If they are given time to work, braces are incredibly effective. They can move or straighten your teeth permanently. Braces can also help you fix your bite, which can help with eating and jaw pain. Braces can fix overcrowded teeth and respace your teeth as well. Over time, braces will help your overall dental health, because it will be easier to brush and floss your teeth if they are straight and evenly spaced.

Making a decision to get braces isn’t easy. It is a big decision to make, but you will reap the benefits for the rest of your life. Do you have questions about getting braces?
