At some point in their lives, most people will need to undergo some form of orthodontic treatment. At Senestraro Family Orthodontics, we pride ourselves on treating every member of the family, from young children to grandma or grandpa. While childhood is the ideal time to move teeth, more adults than ever before are opting for orthodontic treatment. Here is what you need to know about braces.

All About Braces

If you are worried that you might need braces, you're in good company. Researchers figure that over 4 million people across the US have braces or are in the process of getting braces. Twenty-five percent of the people who have braces are adults. Do you think that your mouth might benefit from braces, but you still have questions? Senestraro Family Orthodontics have answers!

Types of Braces

Depending on the problem in the mouth, there are different types of braces. Usually, braces are made of traditional metal or ceramic brackets. These brackets usually are glued to the front of the teeth. Then wires are placed through or on top of the brackets. The wires are tightened according to the plan of the orthodontist. This is the typical type of braces, and they can be used for both children and adults. However, some people were allergic to the rubber bands. Also, the bands broke more easily than wire bands.

Protecting your Braces

Once patients get braces, they need to be sure they are brushing and flossing, caring for braces, regularly. They also have to avoid sticky foods. Hard, crunchy foods such as popcorn also have to be avoided. Also, people who have braces must go in to see their orthodontist to have their braces checked and tightened every 6-8 weeks.

Other Treatments

Regardless of your situation, our treatments can give you a more beautiful smile and improve your oral health. Whether you need corrective jaw surgery, or extractions to compliment your orthodontic treatment, you are in good hands at Senestraro Family Orthodontics.

Emergency Orthodontic Care

If you experience trauma or injury to the mouth, emergency orthodontic care may be necessary. If a part of your braces becomes loose or breaks, do not attempt to fix it yourself. Be sure to call us as soon as possible so we can get you in for an appointment. If you experience severe trauma or injury, you may need to go to urgent care or seek the help of an oral surgeon.
