Braces![]() All About BracesIf you are worried that you might need braces, you're in good company. Researchers figure that over 4 million people across the US have braces or are in the process of getting braces. Twenty-five percent of the people who have braces are adults. Do you think that your mouth might benefit from braces, but you still have questions? Senestraro Family Orthodontics have answers! Types of BracesDepending on the problem in the mouth, there are different types of braces. Usually, braces are made of traditional metal or ceramic brackets. These brackets usually are glued to the front of the teeth. Then wires are placed through or on top of the brackets. The wires are tightened according to the plan of the orthodontist. This is the typical type of braces, and they can be used for both children and adults. However, some people were allergic to the rubber bands. Also, the bands broke more easily than wire bands. Protecting your BracesOnce patients get braces, they need to be sure they are brushing and flossing, caring for braces, regularly. They also have to avoid sticky foods. Hard, crunchy foods such as popcorn also have to be avoided. Also, people who have braces must go in to see their orthodontist to have their braces checked and tightened every 6-8 weeks.
