Aligners Vs Braces![]() Why You Might Need OrthodonticsThere are several reasons you might need orthodontics. Many people have issues with their bites. Some people have overbites or underbites. If you don’t get your bite fixed, it could lead to problems in the long run. Your teeth might also be crowded close together, or they might be widely spaced apart. You also might have teeth that overlap, as well as teeth that are crooked. All of these orthodontic problems can be corrected with braces or aligners. Braces vs. Aligners: The Pros and ConsMany conditions can be fixed with braces or aligners. Braces have brackets that we glue on your teeth. Whether the braces are in the front of your teeth, the brackets in your mouth will be connected with wires. The wires are tightened periodically, so the position of your teeth changes over time. Each patient has a different treatment plan, and wires are tightened depending on each patient’s course of treatment. The thickness of the wires changes over time as well, depending on your plan of treatment. People who wear braces usually come to visit us approximately every 6-8 weeks to get their braces tightened. Braces remain a great option for many patients. Patients with a high degree of overcrowded teeth benefit from braces. Braces are also a good idea for people who might not remember to put in aligners every day. People with braces also have to be sure they are using oral hygiene techniques through their brushing and flossing each day. If patients don’t practice good oral hygiene, they may have discolored teeth, or teeth with tooth decay when the braces come off. Aligners can straighten your teeth without the use of braces. We can use the aligners to fix minor issues with tooth spacing or tooth alignment. We make aligners of clear plastic. Aligners usually take less time to straighten or align teeth than traditional braces. You can eat or drink what you want with aligners because you remove the aligners before eating. You can also brush and floss with the aligners removed. But if you have trouble remembering to use aligners, and put them in, you may want to choose braces over aligners.
